Software generally sucks. Computers suck. Smartphones suck. Everything related to so-called information technologies suck.
We professional programmers clearly see all the tech constantly degrading over at least a quarter of a century, with overall stupidity continually growing up. The stupidest things become stardards de-facto; horribly idiotic things are voted for by irresponsible commitees to become standards de jure. Newer versions of everything are almost always worse than what we had before: this is true for equipment, this is true for software, this is true for technologies, this is true for standards.
Furthermore, actually all the control over their own devices is being taken away from users. Closed source software is a very good tool for this, but even opening the sources may be of no help if they are overcomplicated and overbloated, as it is for most of existing web browsers. Furthermore, with all their secure boots, signed binaries and the very concept of an authorized software, there's no way to regain the control over our own devices, even for the best hackers, not mentioning normal computer users.
Big corporations have their own interest in forcing all the stupidity into standards and technologies. First of all, they are really fond of selling us more and more “powerful” computers, which we actually don't need as we generally use them for the same tasks as 30 or even 40 years ago. Second, and even more important, they really want to know us better. Much better, to the extent we even don't know ourselves that good. They want to know what we buy, they want to know what we eat, they want to know what we do, what we say, what we think, what we feel. They call it “tracking” and “telemetry”, but naming every thing its own name, this is spying and total fascist surveillance.
The sadliest thing to see is how corporations infiltrate the open source community, “replacing” proven and perfectly working computer programs with their overcomplicated crap, which only the corporations are able to maintain.
It is time to say “enough”.
Corporations no more.
Irresponsible commitees and their “standards” no more.
Tools made for idiots no more.
Continual degradation in the name of “technical progress” no more.
The make rebuildworld
command is known to be used in some
opensource systems to rebuild each and every piece of software from the
respective sources. Let's try doing this to the whole world of
computers.
Only big corporations can make computers and computing devices like smartphones, but this is not fatal for us: there are tons of older hardware around, which was produced before the era of total surveillance. Many older computers still work, only they can't run “modern” software (made by people who are either idiots, or deliberate public enemies), and you can't use them to visit “modern” web sites, created by the lowest form of life who call themselves “web developers” or even “web programmers”. We're not going to create more resource-wasting software, and we're going to strive getting rid of the so-called World Wide Web in its present (miserable) state; actually sometimes we have to create web sites, like this one, but you can use computers produced 25 years ago and web browsers from the same period to open any of our sites. As of software, it always may be (and we believe it always must be) written by individuals acting on their own behalf.
We establish a lot of taboos, both tech and non-tech, outlawing practices we know led to deep degradation of almost all computer-related stuff (again, both tech and non-tech). Having the list of taboos, we go on with various software projects. The list of taboos is open in the sense more stuff may be added later, but every item ended up there remains there forever, and this is not to be disputed. We generally don't like to waste time disputing; if you like the principles we have, you can join the project RebuildWorld, which is much easier than you might expect, as there's no formal membership, or if you dislike the idea of joining anything (well, you're right if you do), you may support us, which is even easier: you just decide you do, and that's all. If you disagree with anything here, feel free to keep your opinion, only don't bother disturbing us. In most cases we won't be wasting time arguing, as just to ban another “opponent” takes much less time and effort, saving resources for useful things.
Nuff said. Let's go.
